Tony Simpson

Tony’s background started in sales, in 1988 when he started as a sales rep selling drawing and office supplies to the architectural industry. This lead to being involved in a start up business in 1991. As the business grew so did the offer to their clients, computers started to make a real impact in the industry and the company quickly became a market leader in selling computer-aided-draughting solutions.

Tony recalls, “Technology in this area went from using pens to plot plans, to large format printers. This technology leaped again and we found ourselves involved in the printing industry, pioneering solutions for proofing and short run prints. At this point we merged our business with an international business and in 1998, I sold my shareholding to pursue a new opportunity.”

The print quality of large format printers had reached the level of traditional print techniques but there were no businesses specialising in this area, so Tony started a Large Format Digital Printing Bureau. From 1998 to 2005, he built the company to become a market leader in New Zealand. This included 24-hour shifts and an additional business that was established to add value to the original business. Both businesses were sold in 2005.

“After selling the businesses I investigated other industries to get involved in and it was then that I realised that it was working on businesses, not in them that gave me the greatest pleasure. I started working with other business owners to look at ways of improving their businesses and as a result established a business coaching/consulting business, www.madilach.co.nz.”

Tony also enjoys relationships with other business coaches and industry professionals where they share ideas that help our current and future clients. It was during this process that he met Vaughan Stanley – Vaughan was a consultant like Tony but also a shareholder in G4 and an E-Business Consultant at Zeald.

On a personal note, Tony is married to Paula they have two children, Madison and Lachlan, Tony has been a Rugby coach for the past 6 years and also helps out with Cricket coaching, while Paula coaches daughter Madison in Netball. The family enjoys an active lifestyle with involvement in additional sports along with many outdoor activities at their Tairua beach house.
