Zeald.com is one of the fastest growing website design and e-business consultancy companies in New Zealand. Its vision is to help small to medium sized companies generate amazing results online using a website and other methods of electronic marketing. To date, it has helped thousands of businesses throughout New Zealand use the Internet as an extremely powerful and effective sales and marketing tool.

Zeald.com currently employs 22 operational staff and has four staff dedicated to the continual ongoing research and development of its offerings. In addition to this, Zeald.com has 20 specialised E-Business Consultants working with its clients throughout the Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Northland, Wellington and Christchurch areas in New Zealand.

A Brief History

Zeald.com officially commenced trading in October 2000 and now has well over 6 years of trading experience in websites and online marketing. In the early days, they were very much like any other website company. They thought that delivering a pretty website with lots of ‘bells and whistles’ was the ‘beginning, middle and end’ of the website business.

However, after a few years they started to understand the true needs of their customers. The large majority of their customers wanted a website that produced results – a website that would drive more business!

The key question was … how could they deliver this?

To successfully deliver ‘more business’ was going to require a much more sophisticated and robust approach to websites – an approach that delivers all the key components necessary to create and maintain an extremely successful website.

Zeald.com provides a complete ‘start to finish’ solution that takes the business owner through every key step required to build a website that generates amazing amounts of new business.

Zeald.com’s overall mission is to become a worldwide, ‘world-class’ provider of holistic online solutions. What this means is as follows.

  1. We are committed to providing ‘holistic’ online solutions.
    This means that we provide not just technical solutions – but all the different aspects that are required to make an online sales and marketing tool work for your business.

    Most website designers provide technical solutions but have no concern for whether the solution works for your business. We apply a ‘holistic’ approach by always incorporating the necessary components to maximise the chances of you generating serious results online.
     
  2. We are committed to being ‘world-class’.
    This means that being average or meeting the industry standard is simply not good enough. We want to be known as an organisation that is constantly striving to achieve the highest standards of excellence. In order to achieve this it is vital for us to consistently improve. Continual ongoing improvement is one of our core values and is part of the very make-up of our culture. Every member of the Zeald.com team contributes to the ongoing development of the company.
     
  3. We want to be a worldwide organisation.
    Our aspiration is not to just stay in New Zealand. We know that Zeald.com is an amazing organisation, with an extremely talented team and a powerful set of products and services. We plan on setting up offices and a network of E-Business Consultants in Australia in the next 12-36 months and will be looking to expand into other countries at later stages.

    However, there are always risks associated with growing too fast and we are acutely aware of those risks. While we are determined to be a worldwide organisation, we refuse to fall into the trap of growing too quickly. It may take us 10 years, 20 years or even 50 years. Good things take time and stand the test of time!

A list of the core values that make up the culture at Zeald.com are detailed below. These values are a fundamental part of what makes Zeald.com the organisation that it is. They describe what the culture of Zeald.com is and what values the whole organisation lives by.

  1. A Happy, Enjoyable and Fulfilling Work Environment.
    Most people spend a significant amount of their lives at work. It is important to everyone at Zeald.com that time spent at work is happy, enjoyable and fulfilling. Zeald.com is not just about the ‘almighty dollar’. It is not just about making money at the expense of everything else (although making money is still important). Zeald.com is about providing an environment that everyone involved with the company enjoys on a day to-day basis.
     
  2. Good Old Fashioned, Unfailing, Honesty, Integrity & Respect.
    Zeald.com’s very foundation is based on honesty, integrity and respect. We practice these principles throughout our working day. We do our utmost to treat everyone we interact with, with courtesy and respect, recognising each other’s skills and shortcomings.

    We encourage each other as much as possible and praise each other’s strengths. We always hesitate to be critical and do so only if it is absolutely necessary. If we have to rebuke and be critical, we always do it in private and never in public. (Many of our commitments to respecting each other as individuals are summed up in our Courtesy System which is outlined further down the page)

    We are a group of positive and passionate, 'solution oriented', individuals. We recognise the damage that negative, critical attitudes and a continual focus on the 'problems' rather than on the 'solutions' has on ourselves and everyone else around us. We recognise that positive and passionate people are well liked, well respected, highly successful and enjoyable to be around.
     
  4. Dedicated Continuous Ongoing Improvement to ‘World-Class’ Standards
    We strive to continually improve - both ourselves individually, and the organisation as a whole. Our goal as an organisation is to be nothing short of 'world-class'. We embrace change and consistent ongoing improvement and innovation.

    Systems form the foundation of everything we do. We follow the system and we each take responsibility for continuing to develop and improve the systems that we work with. If a problem arises, we look to blame a system before we blame a person. We look for a systems resolution before we look for a people resolution.

    The very essence of commerce is about serving a customer. Our customers are extremely important to us. We exist as a company to serve our customers and help them to achieve their goals and satisfy their needs and requirements. Our customers are not always right. But we make a genuine, concerted effort every single day to serve our customers as best as we possibly can.
     
  6. Strong Levels of Accountability
    We are accountable to each other and to ourselves and are directly responsible for our own actions and performance. We take ownership of our roles and responsibilities. What we commit to, we deliver. We take responsibility for our knowledge and skills. The team leader or manager is not the only expert. If they are – we have too few experts! We recognise that we are part of a team, and if we, as an individual, fail to perform, the team suffers and has to work harder to make up for our failure to perform.
     
  7. A Mature Approach to Dealing with Conflict
    If we have an issue or a concern with someone or something we carefully think through the issue and come up with possible solutions to the issue. We then privately communicate the issue to the person or people concerned and discuss it in an open way - outlining the possible resolutions that we can see to the issue. When we are wrong, we don’t hesitate to acknowledge the mistake quickly and sincerely and 'make it right'. If we cannot resolve the issue, we ask for help from a neutral third party (e.g. a manager or another colleague).
     
  8. Meeting the Needs of all Stakeholders
    Every business is made up of stakeholders – staff, customers, suppliers and investors/shareholders. We recognise that we are all stakeholders in the business that is Zeald.com. We all work together for the mutual benefit of ourselves and the other stakeholders in the business. A truly successful business is one that is meeting the needs of all its stakeholders!

Our Courtesy System

Integrity and respect are incredibly important parts of the culture of Zeald.com. Right from the company’s inception, we have looked to develop a system of courtesy – a set of rules that we follow as a team to ensure that our work environment is as happy and enjoyable as is possible.

We follow this system of courtesy not only with each other but also with anyone who is associated with Zeald.com – including our customers. We also ask that our customers follow this system of courtesy when dealing with us.

(Please note – we are indebted to Dr Paddy Lund – a dentist from Australia whose teachings have substantially assisted us with the development of our courtesy system).

At Zeald.com, we have eight rules of courtesy that we follow. They are as follows:

  1. Speak very politely using a person's name - 'please' and 'thank you' as a minimum.
  2. When you talk about a person who is not present, speak as if they are listening to your conversation. Use the person’s name in each sentence in which you refer to them.
  3. If you have a problem with someone, talk about the problem only with him or her and in private.
  4. Apologise and make restitution if someone is upset by your actions.
  5. Greet and farewell everyone by name and with eye contact.
  6. Blame a system not a person.
  7. Tell the truth!
  8. Use positive conversation.

By following this system of courtesy, we have developed an incredible team environment at Zeald.com. We have an amazing team of unique individuals that get on well with each other despite their vast differences and backgrounds. Moreover, we have an environment that is largely free of complicated politics, backstabbing and the various other unpleasant things that are common practice in many organisations. We are determined that this is not lost as the organisation continues to develop and grow.
