Laurel Stone - A Biography

Laurel is a management accountant with a broad range of industry experience in the public and private sectors.  After gaining a BCom at Auckland University she has worked in a number of interesting roles at different organisations, including a school, Wellington City Council, an IT company, even oil exploration. What has been the common theme throughout, is her commitment to robust systems that serve both the customer and the organisation.

When the opportunity came up to join the team at Zeald, Laurel was returning to full time work after raising her two children to school-age.  Her commitment to being a parent first hasn’t changed.  She has successfully fused her work life around being the world’s best mum while helping to mature the financial systems at Zeald.

 At Zeald she has been integral in ensuring the financial and business systems align with the effective financial management of the company.  Not always an easy task with one of New Zealand’s fastest growing companies!  Her role at Zeald also encompasses accountabilities for Payroll, Occupational Health and Safety, Building Maintenance and most importantly the Social club.

While Laurel is bringing her accounting skills to the fore at Zeald, she also carries a strong interest in economics and art – the perfect Zeald combination of profit and design.  She is still enormously proud of the fact the she won the economics prize four years running at college, and it can be rather hard to get her to stop going on about it –even though it was a very long time ago. At weekends she can often be found at her art desk, working on her latest mixed media project.

Laurel has two lovely kids aged ten and eight, who also have small roles at Zeald assisting the marketing department stamping envelopes on occasion.  They are also well known for scootering around the office, and asking if there are any chips and lemonade.  And she’s taken – happily married – forever – to Andrew.
