Joseph Clements
During his first year of studies Joseph made a lot of new friends from staying in a university hall of residence, learned to appreciate rugby, consumed a healthy amount of Speights and discovered that it probably wasn’t a good idea to walk across the entire city wearing nothing but a singlet, shorts and holey shoes in the middle of July. While Joseph enjoyed his broad range of subjects he found himself devoting his time to following current affairs, reading political journals and churning out essays, while spending days stuck inside a lab started to lose its fun. By the end of his first year Joseph realized that he wanted to concentrate his studies on Politics, especially in the relatively new and dynamic area of China studies and the role of technology in politics. Joseph said good bye to Canterbury and returned to Auckland to study at the University of Auckland. In his time there he also showed an interest in English writing. He is fascinated by language and communication and brings this enthusiasm to the Zeald team. Joseph fondly remembers his family buying their first computer, a Pentium 1 running Windows 95. Going online meant dialing up and paying $5 per half hour of Internet use. During high school Joesph experimented teaching himself some basic computer programming and web design, but decided that he was more of a people person and decided to focus his time elsewhere. He continues to be an avid technophile and keeps up with the latest mobile phones, laptops and software. He is the point of call for any family or friends with computer troubles. Despite bringing 3 years of customer service experience, first at Countdown and then at Hoyts Cinema, Joseph came to Zeald by a slightly unusual route. With university over and no job lined up Joseph answered a friends urgent need for help with his franchise installing insulation into the walls of houses. Despite not having picked up a hammer since he was 5 years old Joseph took to the job with a real passion. While his boss would say it was only the option to wear stubbies to work that kept him there, Joseph loved the challenging and varied rolls, and gained half a years experience working in the insulation business. With winter approaching and the prospect of working out doors looking worse and worse Joseph decided it was time to find a job where he could combine his love of technology with his communication skills. Joseph is excited about working with people and helping customers achieve their goals. When he’s not following the latest news story online Joseph can be found spending time in Mangawhai with his partner at the beach, gardening or cooking up a storm. |
